DIAPERS

So Jason and I decided we are going to jump on the cloth diapering band wagon. At first I hadn't even considered it. Considering laundry is my least favourite thing to do. Ever. But... i'll get over it I suppose. Something caused me to take a look at the benefits of doing cloth diapering. While I care about taking care of our planet.. I am not the 'greenest' person ever, so that wasn't a strong enough pull to choose cloth diapers over the convenience of disposables. But, when I saw how much money you can save... that caused me to take a second glance.

This is something that has changed a lot since being married...my perspective on money. I used to spend whatever whenever. Jason is the opposite. He is a saver and only likes spending if the item is on sale or is at the very least a good deal. Our first date he tried to use a coupon for two free spring rolls (nothing else... just the spring rolls...) and later when we had dinner it was a donair place he chose only because he had a groupon for it.

All that to say... when I figured out how much we could save if we cloth diapered now and for any future children... I couldn't ignore it.

Do you know HOW MANY DIFFERENT KINDS of cloth diapers there are???? I have spent hours of research learning how they work and what kinds work best for what when... it's amazing. Thankfully I have the opportunity to buy off my sister-in-laws - which saves money and the decision making...

But last night, I dreamt about cloth diapering... all...night...long. Pretty sure I actually didn't have as deep of a sleep as I could have because of it. I'm going to have to nap today. Shucks.

When I woke up this morning, I rolled over and checked my phone, and saw that my dear friend Lanah had tagged me in a post on Facebook. It was an article titled "a letter to my pre-mom self". It was so well written so I gave you the link so you can read it yourself. You just need to read the first few lines and you will understand how well timed it was (but read it all, especially if your a soon-to-be mom, or an old mom, or a dad...or anyone really... just read it).

I'll probably need to be reminded again and again in the next 16 weeks (is that all?!) until our baby girl arrives. These things are small in the big scheme of things. So take a deep breath.

STARTING FRESH

Well, I have decided to make the leap back into the blogging world. It has been a full 2 years since I last blogged and I honestly thought of deciding to start completely fresh by erasing all my history. But, I figured those posts hold an important part of me...so as embarrassing as some of them may seem...they are staying. So if you dare to look back and see where I've been feel free.

Since then, I've gotten married, got a taste of what it's like to be a pastor's wife, lived in another province for a while, and am now pregnant with our first precious child. I feel like the last 2 years of my life have been defined by 'change'. It has been a whirlwind - and that feels like an immense understatement. The person I was, while I haven't lost who I am, is definitely not the person I am now.  I have had a lot of reflecting time as of late.

We moved back to Alberta from BC in April, and I have been out of work since February. We found out we were pregnant the weekend before we moved. So the first four months here I spent on the couch or in bed enjoying the joys of "morning" sickness (whoever named it that I would like to have words with.) It was surprising, being the extrovert I am, how content I was to not leave the house for days on end. Now, I am learning the glorious second trimester actually does exist, and I am nearly crawling out of my own skin at the thought of staying in the house for days on end. Yesterday I read nearly an entire novel in one sitting. Maybe this is the reason I've decided to blog again - some sort of attempt at interaction with the outside world. We've decided that I will not be getting a job - as we only have one car and transit in this town doesn't exist - and who really is going to want to hire me for 3 months at the end of summer. So I am left to my own while Jason, my husband, works to provide for us. While I do have friends - they seem to be very busy, or they live in a different city - so my friends interactions are limited to the virtual realm anyhow. So here I am.

My oodles time is spent now - reading books and blogs, playing silly games on my phone, attempting to learn how to play bass guitar, researching the million mom decisions I will soon have to make, and napping. Oh, and eating chocolate.
